CONNECTING THE WORLD OF ESPORTS

Esports Cities is a non-profit organization creating a global coalition dedicated to cooperation and connecting the resources of the world’s leading esports cities for the advancement of esports through education, research, infrastructure development, and support.

Esports Cities was created by a diverse group of esports stakeholders representing marketers, academics, researchers, travel and logistical professionals, hospitality experts, parents, and more working to help create a global esports infrastructure to share esports resources and knowledge.

THE NECESSARY NETWORK FOR ESPORTS

Esports is defined as video games played competitively for spectators. The global phenomenon of esports generated $700 million in 2018 with revenues expected to double to $1.5 billion by 2020.  Esports is the new face of professional sports and the future of global competition.

Esports grew organically into a global phenomenon supported by 2.6 billion gamers. Around the world, esports presents enormous opportunities and areas of serious concern. Many cities face the same esports opportunities and challenges with limited ways to work with other cities to share information and experiences.

Esports Cities is working to connect those cities.

D3eSports: Racing Towards a Clean Energy Future

In February 2021, Esports Cities and D3eSports/Dawson Racing (Stem Gen, Inc.) developed and launched the D3eSports Cup, a virtual STEM (Science | Technology | Engineering | Math) education – based Esports pilot program with three Pennsylvania STEM high schools.

Stem Gen, Inc. is made up of the father and son duo of Ian and Simon Dawson. Collectively, they have over 60 years of experience in global motorsports. Highlights include a F1 Championship with the legendary Mario Andretti, helping develop the Ecoboost engine for Ford, and over 20 Le Mans starts with 5 podiums and 3 wins with factory (Team Ferrari) and privately sponsored teams.

Senior Esports Summit App: You’re Never Too Old for Esports

One of Esports Cities’ key missions is to reach as many segments of the population around the world as possible through gaming and esports. At the start of the COVID pandemic, the state of Pennsylvania sought the assistance of Esports Cities in producing a mobile solution for their Keystone Athletics, Recreation, and Esports (K.A.R.E.S.) Esports Challenge. The mission of K.A.R.E.S. is to help senior citizens stay connected while combatting isolation during times of social distancing. Long-term, the goal is to get more seniors comfortable enough with technology to start using telemedicine and other tech-based medical resources.

Esports Cities partnered with our contact, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania − based games developer Mega Cat Studios, and connected them with our Pennsylvania partners, Keystone State Games, Pennsylvania Department of Aging, and Pennsylvania Department of Health. Together we launched the Senior Esports Summit app in December 2020 through the App Store and Google Play. The app features five easy and approachable games such as Sudoku and a trivia challenge. The games are designed to reinforce mobile engagement and usage, so seniors get better acquainted with technology.

The K.A.R.E.S. Esports Challenge ran from December 17 through January 31, 2021. In the Google Play store, the Senior Esports Summit app reached the #1 position in the “senior competition” category and #22 under the “senior” category, and #210 in the “Esports” category.
